Oncology is a very specialized area where patients with cancer are cared for and given chemotherapy. The unit is responsible for rendering the cure, control and comfort of the patient. It has policies for the good and safety of the cancer patients and their relatives. Nurses are responsible for giving health care to the patients.
I. Entry Requirements:
a. The patients diagnose with cancer by his/her Oncologist.
b. Submits a written order coming from their Oncologist
II. Services
Oncology Unit has 8 hours staff coverage. The staff renders.
a. Chemotherapy for both IN & OUT patients.
b. All chemo drugs and medications used throughout the whole course of treatment
c. Give instructions to patients and relative regarding the treatment and health care.
III. Scheduling
1. The schedule of the patient depends on the following:
a. Kind of Cancer of the patient
b. The drugs to be used
c. The response of the body of the patient to the drugs
2. For in patient, the ward nurse endorses the patient to the Unit after the oncologist has made the records and the orders.
3. For out-patients, they should have had their check-up of their oncologist. |
