A. X-RAY SECTION

1. SCOUT FILM OR FLAT PLATE ABDOMEN - No preparation ; anytime
2. KUB — preparation same as IVP and Ba. Enema
3. IVP and Ba.Enerna
   a. Light supper on the night before the examination
   b. Take 1 bottle 60 cc of magnesium citrate at 4 pm and another 1 hot 60cc at 9 pm
   c. Cleansing enema in the morning before the examination
   d. Withold breakfast
4. Upper-GI Series
   a. Light supper on the night before the examination
   b. Nothing by mouth after midnight 
   c. Withold breakfast
       Note: Please add cleansing enema in the morning before the examination if the patient has a barium enema procedure on the day prior to this examination
5. Small Intestinal Series (SIS) — preparation same as Barium Enema
6. T-Tube cholangiogram — NPO for 6-8 hours
7. Routine Mammography — No preparation is needed
8. Needle localization Mammography guided biopsy a. Normal CT,BT,Protime b. No Pre-medication prior to procedure c. Please allot 2 hours prior to OR
9. Angiography Normal Creatinine, CT,BT, Protirne, APTT a. NPO 4-6 hours


B. ULTRASOUND SECTION

1. Abdominal examination (Liver, Gallbladder, Pancreas, Spleen, and Abdominal Aorta)
   a. Fat-free diet on the night before the examination
   b. NPO at least 8 hours prior to examination Note: If the patient has a history of cholecystectorny no need for fasting

2. Kidneys, Transvaginal!Transrectal, Breast, Cranial, Thyroid, Testicular, Biophysical Profile, Lungs, Congenital Scanning - No preparation is needed
3. Urinary bladder! Pelvis — patient should have a full bladder

4. Prostate Biopsy
   a. Take 2 tabs of dulcolax on the night before the Examination
   b. Insert 1 dulcolax suppository in the morning prior to Procedure
   c. Take 1 capsule of Ciprobay on the night before the examination and I capsule in the morning prior to procedure Then, 1 tab p.o. bid after procedure for 3 days
   d. NPO at least 4 hours prior to examination Note: Normal CT, BT, Protime, PSA, Hemoglobin and Hematocrit

5. Ultrasound Guided Biopsy — Normal CT, Bt, Protime - NPO 4-6 hours

C. CT-SCAN SECTION

1. WHOLE ABDOMEN Triphasic / LOWER ABDOMEN - ADULT: preparation same as barium enema Normal creatinine, NPO 6-8 hours Infant: normal crea , NPO 6 hours

2. Upper abdomen — Normal creatinine, NPO 6 hours

3. Cranial with contrast — NPO for 4 hours, normal creatinine

4. Cranial plain — No preparation is needed

5. Chest — NPO 6 hours, normal creatinine

6. Extremities and spine — no preparation is needed, if with contrast same preparation as head

7. CT Myelogram — NPO 4-6 hours Normal Creatinine, CT, BT, Protime

8. Neck — preparation same as cranial

9. Orbits — preparation same as cranial

10. Nasopharynx — preparation same as cranial

11. Larynx — preparation same as head

12. Mastoid/Mandible —preparation same as head

13. Temporal bone — same as head

14. Paranasal Sinuses — no preparation is needed, if with contrast Preparation same as head

15. CT Guided Biopsy — Normal CT, BT, Protirne NPO 6 hours

16. CT Angio Head, Kidney Donor, Peripheral — normal crea NPO 6 hours

17. CT Stonogram — full bladder as tolerated

18. CT Urography — normal crea, NPO 6 hours

19. CT BMD — no prep

20. CT Colonography — prep same as ba. Enema 

 

RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT POLICIES

1. The Radiology department is open for 24 hours but special x-ray procedures are done only from 7:00 am — 4:00 pm while the Ultrasound and CT Scan examinations start at 8:00 am — 5:00 pm. Examination after this time are considered “STAT” with the corresponding charge.

2. Upon order of the physician, the nurse sends the request through the computer with the complete data of the patient. Please indicate if it is” Portable, Urgent Going Home or Stat.” All stat requests carry an extra charge.

3. Request for special procedures or for operating room procedure must be brought to the Radiology department on the night before the examination day. To avoid conflict, please indicate on the request form if the patient has other examinations such as Laboratory, Ultrasound, CT Scan and Proctoscopy examinations. Unscheduled examination have “STAT” fee charge.

4. Request for portable x-ray examination should come from the attending physician and not from the nurses or patients.

5. Request for combined examinations such as Barium Enema and Upper GI Series should not be done on the same day. Send a request form on separate sheet.

6. Request for hysterosaiphingography, Cysto-RGP, Operative cholangiogram, or any examinations to be done in the Operating Room should be scheduled in the Radiology department. Specify in the request the time of the examination.

7. For angiography procedure, inform the Radiology Department to enable us to contact Interventional consultant for the specific time schedule. Inform also the relative of the patient to prepare a cash amount for the payment of the procedure including the professional fee of the Neuro-Radiologist.

8. When the Radiology Staff receive the request form from the unit, he/she will call the nursing ward to bring the patient. Please advise patient to remove metallic objects on the part to be examined to avoid long waiting time of removing or changing into a hospital gown. The Radiology Aide will bring back the patient to the room.

9. For patients who have x-ray examination in the morning, the official results will be released in the afternoon between 3-5 pm while the results of the examinations done in the afternoon will be released on the following day. Upon charting the official result, inform the Radiology staff if the patient has transferred to another room. X-ray films will be released only when the discharge slip is presented to the Radiology Department.

10. Only the Residents are allowed to borrow X-ray films. To avoid losses.

11. The official results/ films for Medico-Legal (ML) cases are not to be released unless authorized by the Medico Legal officer.

12. Request for IVP examination, should have normal creatinine results. If it is elevated, please refer to the resident on duty or the attending physician for a “GO” approval of the examination. NOTE: If the patient has an IV fluid, please “KINK” one hour prior to procedure to avoid dilution of contrast.

13. Ultrasound examinations should be done prior to CT Scan and other special procedures.

14. CT Scan examinations should be done prior to x-ray special procedures. Inform the relatives of the patient that this examination is on” CASH” basis.
