The Foundation endeavors to raise funds through goodhearted and generous patrons in the hope that its vision and mission are realized.
“To God the glory, to my neighbor the benefit, and to myself the burden.”
--MOTHER MARIA STOLLENWERK (1852-1900)
Drawing Inspiration from the Life of Mother Maria Stollenwerk
Mother Maria Stollenwerk, S.Sp.S., is one of the co-founders of the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit (S.Sp.S.) with St. Arnold Janssen, the founder of the SVD’s and the Pink Sisters.
At an early age, Mother Maria became a member of the Holy Childhood Association, the purpose of which was to support the abandoned Chinese babies. As early as 16 years old, she felt she had the vocation to be a missionary to China.
At the age of 19, she expressed to her parish priest her desire to be a missionary. While waiting for a convent for women missionaries to be put up by St. Arnold, she took care of the sick in her village.
Her longing to be a missionary to China was enough to sustain her through the many years of waiting, bearing many hardships and challenges.
At 29, she finally reached her goal. She was consecrated as an S.Sp.S.
Her motto: “To God the glory, to my neighbor the benefit, and to myself the burden” animated her selfless service. She is remembered as a heart person, someone who deeply loved God and did what He wanted from the core of her very being. Her positive energies of love and affection endeared her to the community of Sisters and the people she served. She had a peace-loving heart for God and all people.
Drawing inspiration from our Mother Maria’s commitment to care for the sick and especially the abandoned babies, we are more encouraged to do our utmost to restore and sustain life and well-being among those who are living in poverty. We take courage to follow her strong faith in God, her perseverance and her patience in waiting to recognize God’s will.
Equally sensitive to the environs especially the health needs of the people to whom hospitalization is very prohibitive; we felt the urgency of establishing the Mother Maria Stollenwerk Foundation, Inc.
To date, many patients have chosen our hospital because of the satisfactory health care service and competitive rates we offer. We want to continue giving quality health care not only to those who can afford but especially to those who cannot.
We, therefore, knock at the hearts of those who more blessed so together we can live and concretize our mission and vision to minister to the health needs of our people.
